A Diamond Anniversary Update
|
Details of our 75th
Anniversary celebrations are now set in place and are briefly
summarised below. We are still seeking out old members to invite to
join us for the occasions so if you know anyone who was a member of
our club in the past we would be grateful if you would let us know
through the ususal channels. As part of our celebrations for our anniversary year we are planning a couple of special events. A celebratory dinner is to be held in October and a re-enactment of the very first walk in 1936 will take place in June. We are keen that as many current and in particular, past members will help us celebrate one or hopefully both occasions. The notes below give a brief outline of the events. Anniversary Walk 12.06.2011 The walk is programmed for Sunday 12th June and the route which will take us from Darlington to Richmond is 17 miles in length. The original route has been preliminarily checked and still appears to be accessible throughout its length. It is realised that 17 miles might be a little too long for some to enjoy so it is intended that a bus will be arranged to transport those who wish to walk a shorter distance and transport them to Middleton Tyas to meet up at Middleton Tyas where the others who will making a lunch stop there. The whole party will then walk the remaining 7-8 miles into Richmond. On arrival in Richmond we will enjoy an afternoon tea at the Town Hall Hotel which was formally the Turks Head Hotel where the 1936 walkers enjoyed their tea on after the first walk. After tea the bus will then transport everyone back to Darlington. Celebration Dinner 28.10.2011 A dinner will be held on Friday 28th October at the Rockliffe Hall Hotel in Hurworth. The cost for the dinner will be £25.00 although as with all things this may change before the actual date. As well as the dinner at which we hope friends old and new will enjoy reminiscing, we have engaged the services of Mr David Edwards to entertain us with an after dinner speech. Mr Edwards is an internationally known speaker and explorer and we expect to be well entertained. A brief outline of Mr Edward’s resume is given below. Should you want any further details please do not hesitate to contact Bill Golightly either by telephone on 01325 333118 or by e-mail at bill.golightly@ntlworld.com

| 19.08.2010 | Diamond Anniversary Year | 2011 is our 75th anniversary and we are planning one or two events to celebrate the occasion. Details will be announced later but in the meantime we are anxious to contact as many past members of our club as possible as we would like them to have the opportunity of joining us for the events. So if you are, or if you know any past members please get in touch so that we can let you know our plans. Contact via the web site e-mail address or speak to any club member. |
| 25.07.2010 | Club Barbecue | The annual club BBQ was held on Friday 16th July. Click here for the tale of the evening |
| 26.06.2010 | FEAR OF CANINE ATTACK ON LOST WALK LEADER | News just reaching our news desk reports that the walk leader, reported missing recently on a walk on the North York Moors, may have fallen victim to a canine attack. It is thought the leader, not too sure of his bearings may have strayed into the animal's pen to ask for directions in misty conditions. DNA tests are to be carried out on the evidence to ascertain the veracity of the report. |
| 01.05.2010 | Coach Trip to Haltwhistle | Enough takers to make the trip viable have now shown interest so the show goes on. Still places available however so please let Bill know if you are interested. The more names we have the cheaper the fare. You can send names to admin@darlingtonchahf.com if you wish. |
| 19.04.2010 | Coach Trip to Haltwhistle 13th June | Unfortunately the take up for the coach trip by the required date of 13th April is insufficient to make the trip economically worth while. The date for expressions of interest has been extended to 24th April. If the numbers are still inadequate then unfortunately the trip will be cancelled. |
| 08.04.2010 | Sending photographs | Can I suggest that if anyone wants to send photographs that they use the following web site: www.yousendit.com.
